Default New Dehli, New Indian.

Hola,

Anyone else tried the New Indian Dehli opposite GB's yet? What did you think?

I realise this is quite an old post, but as we did go there for a meal earlier this week I thought it worth reporting on our experience. We are both vegetarians, so the fact that they specifically advertise a "large range of vegetarian dishes available" was a major attraction. We are used to eating in some excellent Indian restaurants in the UK, so we had high expectations. Unfortunately, these were not realised.

The service was extremely slow, despite the fact that it was three-quarters empty. Even the starters took almost half-an-hour to arrive. When the main dishes did finally materialise, they were very disappointing. The dahl looked like insipid, congealed wallpaper paste, the curry sauce was floating in thick oil and also looked extremely unappetising. By this point we were almost starving and were just about ready to eat anything... but we drew the line at the great hunks of chicken swimming in the greasy "vegetarian" rojan josh. We called the staff over and pointed this out. They confirmed that the order had been taken correctly, but said that the kitchen had "messed up". By this point, well over an hour had passed... we did not feel like starting again. We said we'd pay for the drinks and that was that. The waitress simply wandered off and left us sitting there.... we waited... and waited... only when we got up to leave did she finally re-appear to collect the money for the drinks.

The whole experience was extremely poor. Shocking service and totally unacceptable food. We went home and threw a pizza in the oven. We will not going back there under any circumstances, so our search for a good Indian restaurant continues.

If anyone has any recommendations, we'd be very grateful.

Andy

Our favourite is still Syedpur - can't beat it as far as we're concerned.

We much prefer Mountains of the Moon, can never do enough for you, and the food is brilliant even the vegetarian options. Unfortunately they have now moved to Los Gallardos, so I guess if we want a good Indian meal that is where we shall have to go....

As a fellow vegetarian, my vote is for Syedpur in Albox. Just about everything on their menu is available as a vegetarian option and the quality is consistent (eaten there several times).

Further afield heading down to the coast there are two other really good restaurants. One is called Chile Pizza in Turre and the other is called Golden Amritsar in Las Buganvillas (near Vera Playa). Been to Chile Pizza lots of times it's always good, only been to Golden Amritsar the once, but the food was excellent!

I wonder if there are any others around that I haven't heard of?

We have in fact since tried Sydepur and were most impressed by the quality of the food and the service, so thanks for the recommendations.

We also found the Chinese place opposite the garage in the road near Mercadona to have a good range of veggy options!
