3 Million Euro Bridge for Albox

The Junta de Andalucia has given the green light for works to commence on Albox's third bridge.
Last Friday - 14th December 2007, Concepción Gutiérrez the counsellor for Transport and Public Works for the Junta de Andalucia signalled the go ahead for Albox's third bridge. The new bridge will span the Rambla de Albox, connecting Avenida de America near La Loma to Calle de Inocencio Arias in Albox. After the announcement Concepción Gutiérrez accompanied by the mayor of Albox, José García Navarro to a ceremony to lay the first stone.
The bridge is expected to cost 3 million euros and will be financed entirely by the Junta de Andalucia by way of a grant negotiated with the Ayuntamiento de Albox. This is the first time the Junta has agreed to sponsor such large scale public works in Albox. The construction is expected to be completed within 12 months. After the ceremony José García Navarro expressed his appreciation to the Junta in the help they have given to this important local project.
The bridge has been designed by OTIPSA Consultores (Oficina Técnica de Ingeniería y Proyectos S.A.) an Almerian based engineering company. It will be a suspension bridge with a similar design to Seville's Puente de la Barqueta (pictured above) which was constructed for Seville's Expo '92. According to Antonio Carrillo, the director of works, the bridge will span 111 metres and be 13.5 metres wide, it's centre mast will stand 27 metres in height. The bridge will be able to support very large vehicles.
