I’ve just found out that a friend of mine has been rushed into hospital suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.
It’s a popular belief that carbon monoxide is just produced from car exhausts or faulty gas appliances, but be warned it can also be the product of a log burner.Check this out http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/carbon-monoxide-poisoning/Pages/Introduction.aspx?url=Pages/what-is-it.aspx so, please make sure all your appliances are well maintained and the room where your log burner is, is ventilated and the chimney is clear.

The scariest thing about carbon monoxide poisoning is that you don't realise it's happening. My guess is your friend is lucky to be alive. I wish him well and hope he makes a full recovery.

Thanks for asking after my mate, after an injection and spending a few hours on pure oxygen, he was sent home, trouble is, the chimney was still blocked, the fire was out and the house was freezing because all the windows were open clearing the fumes.
So, we told them to come to our house and stay over, they arrived at about 20:30 and he was still very ‘woozy’.
While in hospital he wasn’t allowed food or drink, so we fed and watered him, which made him feel a lot better. This morning after a good nights sleep, thankfully, he’s back to normal.
He admits, he was very lucky. This episode has been a really big warning; there is lots of info on the net, check it out.
I’m going to get a carbon monoxide alarm and clean my chimney regularly from now on.
