Myself and family are leaving England to live in Albox.
Anybody got any advice on the best/quickest journey from Calais to Albox?
Cost is not a problem so tool roads are okay.

Hi Carwyn99,
Driving from Calais is a fairly easy and enjoyable drive,so is Bolougne.
we drive it all the time from Kent and it's roughly 1600miles from door to door and we can drive it in a day but prefer to drive through France down to Montpelier and stay overnight in the area then travel through to Albox in the morning nice and early. so no more than 36hours travelling. If we take all toll roads it's a bit quicker, but a little bit boring I must say. so we tend to wander off and on stopping for a coffee in various places.
when are you planning to travel? :)

You can always get a route planner from www.theaa.co.uk or www.rac.co.uk both are fairly easy to follow. Have a safe and enjoyable journey.
A word of warning for France just in case you aren't aware. It is law to carry high Vis jackets for each passenger, in the car with you not in the boot. This is a new law from July 1st and the on the spot fine is 135E. I'm sure you know all the other bits you need to carry by law.
:)
I have just been told to be aware that when travelling through France there is a scam going on whereby a car behind, this one was a German registered Audi, flashed it lights indicating to the car in front to pull over. when the car did so the occupant of the car behind gestured to open the bonnet, the driver refused and drove off only to find that his back tyre had been slashed and he had to pull over again. He was coincidently approched by the same man who wanted the wife to get out of the car. By this time the driver realised what was going on and jumped back in his car locked the doors and slowly drove on until he was able to pull off and change his tyre. Must have been terrifying for the couple. These people were neither French or Spanish.
We should all be on our guard when driving down and make sure our valuable are not on show if we leave the car unattended.

AVOID PARIS.:eek::eek:

Beleive me, we have been driving to Albox for 8 years now and have done most routes.Paris is a total nightmare, no matter what time of day or night. We now land in Bolougne and go around Paris. I will get the names of the main towns we driver through and get back to you so you can see, it's basically the same route from Calais all but a few places.
we travel to Rouen, then around Paris via the Boulevard Pyriphyrique (ring road) then on to Orleans, down to Clermont Ferrand onto Montpellier, Perpignan then it's signposted to the boarder to Spain. Obviously the places I have mentioned are the main towns. Oh I cant wait to go. roll on Aug 13th!!
