Myself and family are moving to Albox in August and wondered whether we will need private health care.
We all have EHIC(European Health Insurance Card) cards but am unsure what if any cover this will cover.
We have rented a long lets for 8 months and if all go well will stay for good.
We are not planning to work for at least the first 2 years we are in Spain until we can speak Spanish.
Any advice.

I think you'll find that the EHIC card will only cover you for emergency care ie. as if you were on holiday. To cover a family for everything that may come up especially with children you will need private insurance. If you Google EHIC I'm sure it will tell you all you need to know.

You can get an E106 from the Newcastle, UK which allows you up to 2 years reciprocal NHS cover. With this you can rgister with the social services in Huecal Overa and get a NUSS number beginning with AN (different if over 65 as you are then entitled to full cover and get a different NUSS number - see below). With the NUSS number you then go to the health centre in Albox who will assign you to a Doctor. Then its like the UK system except you do not get perscriptions from the Doctor with an AN NUSS number. The Doctor will tell you what you need and you then have to buy the drugs from the chemist.
To get started put E106 inyour search engine and get Newcastle's telephone number. Call them and they will talk you though what you get. I believe an EHIC card is not strictly valid if you are living here. Talk to Newcastle as they ar the authority not me.
