Hola,

I know that the barrel price for oil is at it's highest ever, can somebody please explain why diesel should be more expensive than petrol. Many years ago 20 or so, diesel was about one third of the price of petrol and very few people drove smelly diesel cars. As more people switched to diesel over the years, strangely the price of diesel started to increase!

The UK Gov't found it to be a useful form of revenue to put levies on diesel, are the Spanish Gov't doing the same now?, also, the price of diesel used to go down over here quite regularly to reflect barrel prices, not anymore it would appear.

Well you can have higher production and thus cheaper oil if you want. However, this will only mean that consumption will increase and that the finite supply of oil will run out faster.
Diesel is more polluting then even petrol so goverments have tried to reduce its use by higher taxation.
The question that you should be asking is how come the oil industry has become so powerful that there is only a tiny investment in alternative energy. There is no technological reason why we shouldn't all be driving electric/water or better still hydrogen powered vehicles.

Hola,

Does anyone know if the Spanish Gov't puts taxes on fuels in the same way the British Gov't do, it's all China's fault anyway!
