Waiting to Purchase

With bad news all round you may think I'm crazy to buy.
Anyway, I am just coming up to two years waiting for the purchase of an oldish 'finca' just outside Albox to go through.
My question is: Is this a record?

OK, I'll bite, why the delay, must be a bit of record even for Spain, paperwork by any chance.

Yes 'paperwork'.
When Halifax Hispania woke up they wanted a certificate of antiquity, we had to go to Almeria to get this, but the Albox town hall wouldn't stamp it before the election so I jettisoned El Halifax and got the required small mortgage from The Real Halifax here in three weeks.

My advice to anybody after a mortgage: Forget Spanish banks.

The escritura was split between family owners and had to be consolidated and the Land Registry took several months to stamp this. The square meterage is probably not right (tax) and this is now being addressed.
My solicitor wants it all sorted before completion, knowing the legality problems in the area, and I suppose this is in my interest. Its lucky that I wasn't waiting to move.
