I picked these off the internet but not much info available. Has anyone visited the following areas of interest?
- - if so are they worth a visit - - and where are they?
1) The eighteenth century Hermitage of San Antonio is built on the remains of the former mosque. Tourists enjoy this site’s interior murals.
2) 17th century Aljambra Wells
3) Aljambra Tower,
4) 1762 Cerro del Castillo (Castle)
5) Terdiguera Tower, 14th century

The first one on the list is the little chapel in the barrio of San Antonio at the top end of Albox,it has undergone a major restoration which was only finished recently.
There is a lengthy thread here but very interesting and amazing to see the transformation of the "Ermita".

Thanks Caballero, interesting! Do you know where it is exactly? And does anyone know about the others?

It is a fifteen minute stroll (mostly uphill) from the main square in Albox, take the narrow street to the right of the church towards the farmacia,go past the Policia Local and take the block paved street off to the right.
You should see Bar Cervantes on your right, take time to admire the doors of the houses in this street.
At the end of that street, turn left, then its first right (signposted)and right again at the top of the street, keep going until you come to a small square with the biblioteca,go past the small square on your left and take the first street on the left and you should see the ermita at the top of the street.
As for the rest of your list,it appears there is very little to see http://www.castillosnet.org/programs/castillosnet.php?tip=inf&dat=almeria/AL-CAS-015 you can change the language to English.
Have you ever visited the Palace in Almanzora? They have a photo exhibition in one wing which should give you some ideas for places to visit.:)

I think numbers 3 and 5 are the Moorish towers and 4 is the flat topped hill behind Albox where all the telephone masts are. I believe that there used to be a castle there but it was destroyed by an earthquake!

Thanks Caballero I will check out the Hermitage. Not much left of the castle to see but the superimposed pic is interesting. I will also visit Almanzora as you suggest. The very small, although useful as a landmark, ruin that you see on the right as you go from Albox past Aljambra to Limaria is maybe one of the items on my list?? Girasol - thanks for your comments also.

Just to let you know the entrance to the exhibition at the Palace is not through the main gate at the front. You have to go down the side of the building where the street is,about halfway down is the entrance,if it is closed you need to ring the mobile number above the door and a lady in a house opposite will come and open up for you,at least thats what happened when we went.

There was an interesting article on this area in the Lifestyle magazine. They quoted www.valledelalmanzora.org as a useful site. The magazine is available on www.levantelifestyle.com if you want to read the article. Claire

If old castles are your thing have a look at Steve Brockett's website with aerial photos of the remains of moorish castles in the Oria area - click on spain - almeria - castillos de moro or direct weblink below - there are two walkable/scrambe-able to between Oria and Los Cerricos, well worth the effort and not a signpost or tea shop in sight!

Thanks to Caballero, Girasol and Calendula for suggestions. Went to top of Aljambra Tower and was a bit disappointed - few stones which had graffiti on one side and the Heritage sign had fallen down and was gathering dust, but a nice view! At the base of this hill is a small rectangular stone basin with stagnant water in but appears to have a sign on a pole that has fallen in now covered in mud. I wonder if this is any thing of significance in terms of Heritage. Does anyone know? Or as Freud said sometimes a cigar is just a cigar! I went to the Ermita San Antonio which is at top end of Albox and interesting location along the very narrow old streets of the old town. The Ermita looks well renovated but the doors were locked - how does one get inside?
