Hola,

Are we victims of 24/7 news, when all we seem to hear about as "news" is poor old Cheryl Cole, I mean, she must be starting to wonder where her nearest Job Centre is...poor thing!

I know it would be depressing to hear about the world's problems, wars etc all the time and there has to be some light news but.....

Who are these people really....so called celebrities......I don't think they have to earn it these days...what do you think?

Sensationalism sells and huge swathes of the population find these stories compelling (me included - at times).

There are around 50 million tweets posted daily. If someone or something is tweeted about enough it becomes a trending topic. Today Cheryl Cole (http://www.google.com/search?tbm=mbl&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1366&bih=677&q=cheryl+cole&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=) has been a "trending topic" worldwide all morning. That must mean a hell of a lot of people are talking about her.

I suppose ironically reality TV and their sellebrities allow us to escape our real lives and virtually experience a slice of their unreal lives...

People have always been interested in gossip. Preferably the more salacious the better. Even in Roman and Egyptian times such things were (much) talked about. That said, today it is on a whole new level. In my opinion, there is a major "dumbing down" of society as a whole these days, but who cares what I think :) I am such a miserable old git that I even insist on correctly punctuating texts!

There is always the ‘off switch’.
Personally, I have difficulty in finding the ‘on’ switch………........Cheryl who????

Hola,

Well I must admit I do not read the newspapers here nor "twit", I do admit to popping Sky News on to wake up to in the early mordy, there has to be some light entertainment, I understand that, it seems that you have to listen to such important things as MP's, Footballer's sex lives, whose going to be a judge on America's got talent etc, before you can find out what's happened in Syria, Libya etc.

Next......:)
