Can anyone tell me if your NIE number has to be carried with you at all times. If so, is it possible to have the original A4 size reduced to a credit card size so it's easy to carry.

Original copies are only really needed for big purchases, like a house, car etc. Passports are usually OK for identification purposes when using cards at shops.

We have a credit card sized passport copy with the NIE doc copy on the other side laminated in plastic in wallet/purse. Originals kept safe in house.

Never needed anything else in day to day transactions.

Sterling, Unfortunately if you reduced A4 down to credit card size no one would be able to read what's on it.

Not the way I do them ;)

The NIE *is* a little small but shows the header/official stamp etc. The number was made bigger. Passport is fully legible.
