Mikeyj. My first job was a butchers delivery boy at the age of 10 and I never stopped working from then - until the age of 58 when I decided I'd had enough - retired and moved to sunny Albox.

Unlike some whose first and only job was a school monitor.

First job was a clerk in a bank - no glass screens, everyone smoked both sides of the counter. The Bank Manager actually was a manager who could make decisions, he kept cigarettes alight in his office and behind the main counter at the same time as he chain smoked. He kept a pint of milk on the floor by his desk which he regularly swigged as he had a stomach ulcer. Computers weren't even a dream and mobiles still belonged to the scripts of Startrek. Life was so unrushed - - roads were quiet -- and the sun always shone - - I just need to wipe my rose tints - - - !

Bob, Those were the days - for the first 10 years of my self employment - If I needed a loan - I used to pick up the phone { my bank - the only bank - and the nearest bank was 10 miles away } speak to the manager and tell him what I wanted.

The answer was always I'll put the money in your account today Fred call in and sign the papers next time your in town.

I can see that happening these days.
